breathing with the moon

What began as an exploration of place in the southern Sea Islands evolved into a meditation on time—history, observable change and the natural rhythms that shape our experience of time. Key among those rhythms is the tide, which is at least as important as circadian and seasonal cycles. Its twice-daily ebb and flow, which is heavily influenced by the gravitational pull of the moon, affects the life of flora and fauna; shapes the activities of humans; and along with wind, waves and storms, reshapes the islands themselves.
