Women in Focus XXI Juried by Fay Gold

Celebrating 21 years, a Women in Focus members Annual Exhibit, juried by Fay Gold. www.womeninfocusatlanta.com.

Women In Focus is a non-profit artist-initiated organization of women photographers who have joined together to support and promote the photographic arts. It was founded in 1993 by a group of women who recognized the need for a formal network of women photographers who could assist in each others' personal, professional, and artistic growth. Women In Focus has become a thriving organization whose diverse membership includes photographic artists ranging from beginners to seasoned professionals, all brought together by their passion for photography. Women In Focus values each individual member for the unique contributions that she brings to the organization and strives to provide all members with the resources that they need to thrive as artists. Women In Focus is dedicated to facilitating a forum for open dialogue regarding photography in all of its forms. Educational programs address both technical proficiency and scholarship by incorporating lectures, workshops, field trips and critiques and by covering topics related to the history and business of photography as well as the creation of images. Women In Focus engages in community activity by hosting events all around Atlanta. The scope of the group's activities is further extended past the geographical area of its home base through an Internet presence and joint projects with women photographers around the world.

Brenau Exhibit Opens

Land and Sea: Amelia and the Southern Sea Islands will hang in the Brenau University President's Gallery from August 18 - October 12, 2008. The exhibit features two distinct, yet related bodies of work. The first is a series of color seascapes I photographed at Fernandina Beach over the past year or so. The second is a collection of black and white prints that explore the intimate details, or "fingerprints," of the southernmost Sea Islands--a string of low barrier islands off the coast of South Caroina, Georgia and northern Florida.

The President's Gallery is located upstairs in the Pearce Auditorium building on Brenau University's front campus in Gainesville, Georgia. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Friday, 10am - 4pm and Sunday, 2pm - 5pm. The Galleries will be closed August 31-September 1 for the Labor Day holiday.

I will give an Artist Talk on Tuesday, September 9 from 5:30-6:30pm in the President's Gallery. The talk will be followed by a reception for all current Brenau Galleries exhibits from 6:30 - 8:30pm in each of the galleries. Other exhibits include Body Image: Beyond Appearance and a unique collection of Polaroid photographs by Andy Warhol. The public is invited to attend.
