Capturing the Character of Plants

Plants have character. And the job of the photographer is to find a way to capture and emphasize that character. Take these dried leek seedpods. Both the stems and the tips of the pods have sensual curves. My task was to emphasize these curves and to highlight the pods without any of them overlapping. I chose a black backdrop and simple lighting setup: One lamp in a softbox, with a large white bounce card nearby to soften and even out the lighting a bit.
